Man Utd could return for Victor Osimhen despite signing Rasmus Hojlund as transfer strategy revealed

Man Utd could complete a deal for Osimhen.

Manchester United may attempt to complete a deal for Victor Osimhen as part of a new transfer strategy - despite already signing Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund was officially unveiled as a United player last Saturday, prior to the club's pre-season friendly against Lens at Old Trafford.

The Dane was initially ruled out of action for a short period of time due to a 'small issue'. But the Daily Mail claim that the issue, which is said to be a stress response hotspot on his back, is more serious than first disclosed, and the forward is set to miss game time during the first part of the season.

The news will come as a major blow to United, who signed Hojlund to ease the club's goalscoring burden on Marcus Rashford.

But they will have to now wait for the 20-year-old to make his official debut. In addition, the Dane is yet to be given a squad number by the club.

United have completed encouraging business this summer, with Hojlund's arrival taking their spending above the £150 million mark following deals for Chelsea's Mason Mount and Inter Milan's Andre Onana.

And according to the Manchester Evening News, United have identified a new transfer strategy that could allow them to acquire more top talent.

Man Utd could sign Osimhen amid new transfer strategy

It is claimed that manager Erik ten Hag and United recruitment staff are exploring players who are entering the final 12 months of their contracts as part of a new transfer strategy.

As a result, the club may be able to attract top players that would otherwise be priced out of moves from their current clubs.

The report states Napoli star Victor Osimhen as a potential target for United, given that his contract expires in the summer of 2025 - he would be a target for next summer.

According to Italian outlet Il Mattino (via Football Italia), however, the Nigerian has laid out his demands for a new contract to his current club. Should an agreement not be reached, United would be in a position to potentially swoop in.

Other names included in the report as possible targets include Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, Real Madrid pair Eder Militao and Rodrygo and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, who all see their deals expire in 2025.

United, meanwhile, are in a more secure position when it comes to their current contracted players. Stars like Raphael Varane, Bruno Fernandes and Rashford are all committed to the club - or have contract options - until at least 2026 and beyond, with Hojlund, Onana and Mount all signing deals until 2029.
