PSG could return for Marcus Rashford after 'secret transfer talks' to replace Kylian Mbappe

United could lose Rashford.

Paris Saint-Germain could launch a fresh move for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, according to reports.

PSG have been linked with a move for Rashford on numerous occasions during his career at Old Trafford.

In December 2022, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi revealed to Sky Sports that PSG had spoken to Rashford and his representatives, and were keen on signing him the following summer on a free transfer.

As it transpired, United activated their one-year option to extend the England forward's contract, meaning a transfer never happened.

Over a year on, Rashford is struggling for form at United and has recently been the subject of an off-field 'internal matter' that the club has now addressed.

The 25-year-old visited Belfast on Wednesday - a scheduled day off for the squad - with images showing he went out on the same evening.

The Athletic claim, meanwhile, that Rashford was also out on Thursday evening, before missing United training on Friday due to illness.

In a club statement, United confirmed that the forward has 'taken responsibility' and that the matter is now closed, although made no reference to any details surrounding the incident.

Now, according to the i newspaper, PSG are 'tempted' to rekindle interest in Rashford next summer and launch a bid for the England star if Mbappe leaves the club at the end of his contract.

And while it is claimed that, as per sources, Rashford has no interest in leaving United in the near future, it remains to be seen whether a significant offer would change his thinking.

Erik ten Hag's side are currently outside the Champions League qualification spots this season, while PSG are a shoe-in to qualify automatically after a typically strong Ligue 1 season to date.

Another element that could potentially make a sale of Rashford more likely is Financial Fair Play (FFP), with United reportedly unable to do big business this month over fears of a possible breach if spending was to occur.

If PSG are willing to pay a significant fee to United for the 25-year-old, United could do outgoing business this summer - although they will no doubt want to see Rashford return to top form at Old Trafford rather than elsewhere.
