Man Utd 'lower' Mason Greenwood asking price after revealing Getafe comment

United have reportedly come to a key decision.

Manchester United have lowered their asking price to sell Mason Greenwood this summer, according to a new report.

Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe for the 2023/24 season, after United's internal investigation into the forward's behaviour determined that he would leave the club via mutual consent.

He was initially suspended by United in January 2022 following his arrest on suspicion of rape and assault.

He was then charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in October 2022. The CPS discontinued those charges in February of last year, stating that 'a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new information that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction'.

Speaking last Wednesday, new United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe stated that the club would make a 'fresh decision' on Greenwood's future after he and INEOS took over footballing operations at Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe explained that United would come to a 'fair decision on the basis of values', and added: "[The basis of values] which is basically, is he a good guy or not, and answer could he play sincerely for Manchester United well and would we be comfortable with it, and would the fans be comfortable with it."

In an interview with Spanish radio station Cope, Getafe president Angel Torres claimed that Greenwood is keen to stay with the Spanish club next season if it is once again determined that he will leave United.

And local outlet Nacional now report that United are 'willing to reduce' their asking price for the 22-year-old from €50 million to €30 million.

It is claimed that Barcelona are ready to prepare a formal offer to sign the forward, with the likes of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, as well as several Italian clubs, linked with making moves for Greenwood in the summer.

Greenwood has scored five goals and added five assists in 22 La Liga appearances for Getafe this season.
