Timo Werner set to complete stunning Premier League return after nightmare Chelsea spell

Timo Werner set to complete stunning Premier League return after nightmare Chelsea spell

Timo Werner is on the verge of returning to the Premier League.

Timo Werner is set to complete his return to the Premier League this month, according to stunning reports.

Werner made his name at RB Leipzig, where he scored an impressive 28 league goals in the 2019/20 season.

His goal-scoring exploits in the Bundesliga prompted Chelsea into action as they activated his £47.5 million release clause.

But the star forward failed to deliver in England's top flight, scoring a measly 10 league goals during his two seasons at the club.

Werner returned to RB Leipzig, but he's on the verge of returning to the Premier League.

According to Florian Plettenberg, the 27-year-old is set to sign for Tottenham on a six-month loan deal.

Discussions are taking place between Leipzig and Spurs as they look to tie up the transfer.

Werner is said to be ready to leave Leipzig's training camp to link up with Ange Postecoglou's side in London.

It appears the North London outfit have fended off competition from Manchester United, who were thought to be interested in signing the player this month.

Erik ten Hag reportedly eyed a striker to offer support to Rasmus Hojlund, who has scored just one league goal this season.

Werner netted 16 goals in all competitions in his first season back in Germany following his nightmare spell at Stamford Bridge.

He scored 23 goals in 89 matches in all competitions for the Blues but won the Champions League during his time at the club.

Spurs will be hoping to tap into Werner's form from his first stint at Leipzig. He bagged 95 goals in 159 appearances across all competitions.

Postecoglou is currently without star man and captain Son Heung-min, who is on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup.

He has Richarlison and Alejo Veliz at his disposal as he looks set to call upon Werner's services for the rest of the season.
