It's official. Wrexham have confirmed the signing of Republic of Ireland international James McClean from Wigan Athletic – and it's arguably their biggest coup to date.
The 34-year-old winger, who recently earned his 100th international cap, has signed a one-season contract at the League Two club with the option to extend.
McClean will not be available for Saturday’s clash against MK Dons, according to the club's website, but will link up with the Wrexham squad next week.

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign for Wrexham," the former Sunderland and West Brom winger said. "It’s a project that is very exciting and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.
“The club has ambitions to go even further, and I’m a very ambitious person. I’m someone who is driven and I want to be a part of that journey.”
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is understandably delighted with the deal.

“I’m really pleased with the signing of someone with the calibre of James," he said. “As I said in the summer, it’s about being patient and getting the players in who can be strong additions to our squad moving forward.”
Sunday Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop claims Wrexham have paid around £250,000 for the experienced McClean. "A real coup and statement signing by landing an Ireland international," he added.
Wigan, meanwhile, have confirmed that the club wanted to retain McClean, who had 12 months left on his current deal, but were unable to agree new terms.
A statement from the League One side read: "Although the club is naturally disappointed to lose a player of James’ experience and quality on the eve of the 2023/24 Sky Bet League One campaign, he departs with our best wishes and we thank him for all of his efforts in a Latics shirt."

McClean made over 170 appearances across two spells at the DW Stadium, and made his debut in 2013 in a Community Shield game against Manchester United.
The experienced Republic of Ireland international will be Wrexham's second biggest signing if the above fee is correct.
Back in January 2022, the Welsh club forked out a club-record £300,000 for striker Ollie Palmer following his impressive spell at AFC Wimbledon.

Wrexham, meanwhile, are one of the favourites to achieve another promotion this season, with manager Phil Parkinson being handed a wage bill that will 'almost double' most of their rivals, according to the Daily Mail.
In addition to the wage bill, Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are thought to be expecting a promotion sequel following last season's success.
