Gonzalo Higuain is expected to be the latest marquee signing to join David Beckham's Inter Miami, with reports claiming the player has already reached an agreement.

The news comes from Argentina with Tyc Sports' Cesar Luis Merlo reporting that the deal between the American club and player is for two and a half years, until the end of the 2020 season.

Tyc also claim that the Juventus striker turned down offers to remain in Serie A and to move to the Premier League in order to join Beckham's side.

The report says that the only thing left to do is to agree a deal with Juventus, although the Old Lady may be willing to let him leave for nothing.

That's exactly the situation Beckham's team found themselves in earlier this summer when the Italian champions allowed World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi to leave Turin for free, in order to move to Miami.

Interestingly MLSsoccer.com report that DC United actually hold the rights for Higuain in the MLS and so the Florida side will have to pay their rivals for the rights.

The 32-year-old striker moved to Juve in 2016 from Napoli for €90 million, after equalling the Serie A record of 36 goals in a season with the Naples side the previous season.

He scored 40 goals in his first two seasons at the Allianz Stadium before moving on loan to AC Milan and Chelsea in the 2018/19 season, after Cristiano Ronaldo arrived.

His return to Turin for the 2019/20 season saw him score eight times in 32 appearances in the league, as Maurizio Sarri's side won their ninth league title in-a-row.

Beckham's new MLS side only joined the league this season and lost all five of their opening fixtures before Covid-19 but a halt on the league.

They continued their poor form by losing all three of their group games in the 'MLS is Back' tournament, which took place in Florida in July.

Since the normal league returned the side have won one and lost one, earning their first three points in a win against Orlando City.
