Manchester United have already written up a three man shortlist of managers to take over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though they will still give him enough time.

According to reports on Thursday, United's board are still backing Solskjaer, despite the loss to Burnley leaving them six points behind the top four, but things could yet change.

The Daily Star are reporting Ed Woodward and the board are waiting for the returns of Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford from injury to properly judge the manager.

According to the same report should things get worse they've decided on Mauricio Pochettino, Gareth Southgate and Julian Nagelsmann as the three managers who could take over.

Pochettino was sacked from his job at Spurs in November, just five months after they lost in the Champions League final, due to the poor start in the Premier League this season.

He was replaced by former United boss Mourinho and he was actually linked with replacing the 'Special One' when Mourinho left Old Trafford in December 2018. Poch was favourite for the role right up until Solskjaer went from interim boss to full time manager.

Southgate is currently preparing for Euro 2020 with England. He has changed the Three Lions' fortunes since taking over from Sam Allardyce, first as an interim.

He has overseen a move towards a more youthful and attacking side, something that Solskjaer has tried to do at United, with limited success.

Under Southgate's management the national team have reached the semi-final of the World Cup and topped their Nations League group with Spain and Croatia, again reaching the semi-final.

RB Leipzig manager Nagelsmann is the last man on the list. The German might only be 32 but he already has a reputation as one of the best coaches in Europe.

He's taken Leipzig to the top of the Bundesliga after just six months in charge, after previously taking Hoffenheim into the Champions League.

It might surprise some United fans to see that former Juventus manager Max Allegri isn't on the shortlist, with the Italian out of work since leaving the Old Lady at the end of last season.

Woodward doesn't want to sack another manager, having already sacked three since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, but if things don't improve he may have little option.

United have an interesting shortlist but who should replace Solskjaer?
