Denzel Dumfries Opens Talks With Serie A Club After Impressing At Euro 2020

After impressing everyone playing at right wing back for Netherlands at the Euros, it was inevitable that Dumfries would attract interest.

Denzel Dumfries entertained everyone at Euro 2020 and now the Netherlands' wing back could be set for a huge move to Italy, with interest from Serie A.

Whether it was due to his name, allowing Scotland fans to stay involved beyond the group stages, or his marauding runs from full back, neutrals all enjoyed Dumfries' performances in Euro 2020.

The Dutch right back was extremely important to how the Dutch played before being knocked out by Czech Republic in the second round, thanks in part to Matthijs de Ligt's red card.

Dumfries currently plays for PSV and his form in the tournament led many to believe that a bigger club than the Dutch side would come in for the 25-year-old.

Now it looks like Inter Milan could be that team, with reports in Italy that they've made contact with the player's agent in order to work out a deal.

According to Calciomercato, the Serie A champions aren't willing to meet PSV €20 million valuation due to the player being out of contract at the end of next season.

Inter are in need of a replacement for Achraf Hakimi, with the full back expected to join PSG for around €70 million, just a year after he joined the team.

Despite winning their first league title in 11 years, Inter needed to sell the Moroccan due to financial constraints, which is why they lost title winning manager Antonio Conte.

Dumfries, who scored two goals in four games at the Euros, is the latest name linked with the San Siro outfit, after Hector Bellerin, Davide Zappacosta and Nahuel Molina had all previously been linked.

With the club's financial problems having already stripped them of their manager, who was then replaced by Simeone Inzaghi, there were fears that the likes of Romelu Lukaku could be sold.

Hakimi's departure though looks like it could be the only high profile sale and Lukaku certainly doesn't want to leave Inter.

Asked during a Q&A by former Manchester City player Trevor Sinclair if he fancied a move to the 'Blue half of Manchester,' the former Manchester United striker answered "I am happy at Inter."

Whilst he won't move to United's local rivals, Lukaku will have a teammate who did cross an inter-city rivalry next season, with Hakan Calhanoglu having swapped AC Milan for Inter this summer.
