PSG In Talks To Complete Surprise January Signing

Paris Saint-Germain are in talks with Lassana Diarra about drafting the experienced midfielder in, as per Paris United.

Unai Emery's side have looked mightily impressive this season and have already created a handsome gap between themselves and last season's winners Monaco in Ligue One, as well as looking like one of the favourites to go all the way in the Champions League - a trophy they have yet to win.

The quality of options PSG have at their disposal is quite frightening, and they have one of the most complete sides in Europe.

If you were to pick out a weak area, though, it would likely be in central midfield. Marco Verratti and Adrien Rabiot have both been very good this term, but the team are heavily reliant on Thiago Motta, who plays slightly further back in a deeper role.

And given they are a little light in defensive midfield, the Parisiens have identified Diarra, 32, as someone who can fill in for Motta when he's not available.

The Frenchman is vastly experienced in the game, having turned out for the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid. He barely turned out for the first two teams in what was two unproductive spells, but went on to make over 100 appearances for Los Blancos after joining from Portsmouth - and won three trophies.

Diarra, who had a stint in Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala and Lokomotiv Moscow, was playing for Marseille in Ligue One last season but his contract was terminated in February after just 11 appearances in the 2015/16 campaign.

He then joined UAE champions Al Jazira in April but could be back in his native France in next to no time, with a short-term free transfer potentially on the cards. It certainly makes sense for all involved, given PSG wouldn't have to pay anything for him, while Al Jazira are said to be desperate to remove him from their foreign players quota.
