Could Philippe Coutinho finally move to Barcelona in the January transfer window? Well if it does happen then Steve McClaren thinks it should set off one of the transfer windows more unlikely deals when Liverpool try to replace the Brazilian.

The transfer saga that simply won't die as much as we'd all love it to. For us neutrals we're all hoping it happen early in January otherwise we'll be subjected to it all month and possibly, even worse, the summer too.

It's not like the rumours needed retriggering but once Nike accidentally seemed to 'reveal' the deal the other night it has gone up 10 fold and left everyone assuming it'll happen soon.

It was soon deleted off Barcelona's page but it didn't stop people assuming the former Inter Milan player will be on his way to the Camp Nou in January, especially after he missed out on Liverpool's first game of 2018.

And if the 25 year old did leave then Jurgen Klopp would need to replace him. Steve McClaren was asked who could be the man to come in if the Reds sell and the former England manager suggested Alexis Sanchez, saying:

"It's difficult. I would look at Sanchez from Arsenal as there may be a bit of movement there. I could [see Sanchez move to Liverpool] Sanchez will be ambitious and he's that type of player that could replace Coutinho."

It's universally known that the Chilean is out of contract at the Emirates at the end of the season, when he could move for free, and the Gunners nearly sold him last summer to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola's side want to wait till June to sign him for nothing whilst PSG have also been linked, more likely with a January move, Anfield seems like an unlikely destination and fans weren't impressed with the link:

No one is saying it wouldn't be a great move for Liverpool but surely it's not happening Shteve!
