Trent Alexander-Arnold's individual highlights against Rangers are brilliant, he should be at the World Cup

Trent Alexander-Arnold starred for Liverpool in their Champions League win over Rangers last night

Trent Alexander-Arnold was back to his best as Liverpool beat Rangers 2-0 in the Champions League last night, with his individual highlights making for brilliant viewing.

The 23-year-old has come in for criticism following his performances for Liverpool so far in 2022/23.

But he produced a sensational showing for the Reds on Tuesday to potentially transform his season.

Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring at Anfield, bagging a stunning goal in the seventh minute, when he curled home a tremendous free-kick in a moment of magic.

As ever, Alexander-Arnold also showcased his expert distribution, spraying passes all over the pitch and highlighting his best qualities when on the ball.

He wasn't under too much defensive pressure due to the lack of threat from Rangers but looked assured at the back.

Alexander-Arnold won five of his seven ground duels and four of his five tackles.

The English right-back addressed his form this campaign as he hit back at his critics following the 2-0 win.

"People say things but I come out and perform for the team. It’s been a slow start to the season for me but I’m looking forward to the rest of it," he told BT Sport.

"The performance was great from the lads. On Saturday it was disappointing, we never got going with our press.

"We were slow out of the blocks, but this was the complete opposite.

"We started well and continued it throughout the game.

"They had their spells in the second half, but I think overall we played to our standard."

Jurgen Klopp hailed his star man and highlighted his defensive showing.

"He played a good game, defensively especially, and wonderful goal," said the Liverpool boss.

"We had a defensive problem, our timing was not right, we take risks in our defending, everyone knows that and these gaps are often on the back of Trent but not because of him."

Alexander-Arnold will be looking to build on this impressive performance when his team resume their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Sunday.
