Jurgen Klopp showed a huge amount of respect to Rafa Benitez after he played down his celebration in Liverpool’s thumping win over Everton.

The Reds travelled to Goodison Park on Wednesday for the Merseyside derby, with Jordan Henderson firing Liverpool into the lead in the opening 10 minutes.

Klopp appeared on the verge of doing one of his wild celebrations after Henderson’s opener, but the Liverpool boss seemed to have had a sudden change in heart.

The 54-year-old German turned around and was ready to roll out his signature fist pump celebration, only to spot Everton manager Benitez midway through.

Klopp went on to turn the full 360 degrees and played down his celebration massively.

And fans were quick to praise the Liverpool manager for showing his class by not celebrating directly in front of Benitez.

“He was thinking it but then was like nah. The respect he has for him,” one fan tweeted.

Someone else wrote: “Yeah, I noticed that moment too. Good sportsmanship. It's a dying art, but Klopp has it.”

While a third Twitter user added: “What level of control. Especially for a man with such emotions.”

And a fourth said: “I really don’t know how I can love Klopp more.”

Liverpool are third in the Premier League table and are one point behind Manchester City and two points adrift from league leaders Chelsea.

Speaking after Liverpool’s convincing 4-1 win over Everton, Klopp was thrilled with his side’s performance at Goodison.

“It was by far the best performance we've done at Goodison,” he told BBC Match of the Day.

“Later on, I will enjoy watching it because I know the result, that helps it. I had moments tonight that I enjoyed a lot. I liked what I saw.”

Liverpool will now return to action on Saturday when they travel to the Molineux for their Premier League clash with Wolves, with kick-off slated for 3pm UK time.
