Marcelo Bielsa Gives 41 Minute Explanation Of Why Leeds Were Better Than Manchester United

Everyone enjoyed how Leeds played as they refused to change their style, but it still ended in a 6-2 loss for Bielsa's side.

Marcelo Bielsa had a 41 minute explanation of why his side were 'superior' to Manchester United during their recent 6-2 loss in the Premier League.

The two Roses rivals played an outstanding game on Sunday, with 43 shots during the 90 minutes between them, in a complete contrast to the previous weekend's extremely dull Manchester derby.

Leeds were mainly praised for their positive play, even though it left them vulnerable in defence to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side's six goals and 26 shots.

Some did question if Bielsa's side were going to need to change their approach in order to remain successful in the top tier, having been promoted last season.

And on Thursday, in his pre match press conference ahead of Sunday's game against Burnley, Bielsa clearly wasn't feeling the Christmas spirit.

In a 41 minute monologue, which is more of a duologue with his translator involved, he dismissed the idea his side needed a new style and claimed they had been superior to their rivals.

"What really happened in the game has nothing to do with what's said in the press," the former Marseille boss said.

Asked about improving his defence, the 65-year-old added, "The questions directed at the players tries to weaken the style of play we have. Suggesting to them whether they would ask me to change my style of play.

"Having revised the game, and the real reasons of how we lost this game, they're not taken into account. This is not something new as media platforms, journalists, can only analyse results.

"Normally, when there is adversity, what you guys do is try to weaken those facing adversity or to ridicule the style of play of a team."

Asked what single improvement he was looking for from his side to be more solid, Bielsa, who took charge of the club in 2018, said, "To respond, I have to take the base of the last game. I can tell you the data we collected from the last game. From a physical aspect, Manchester United played their best game of the season and Leeds were superior in this aspect.

"In possession, we were superior, which does not signify anything, but within a context it starts taking some value. There was no clear dominance in the game. We were dominated and dominated in a similar manner."

Bielsa's decision to go on a long rant about his methods is reminiscent to when his scout was caught spying on Derby County training in his first season in the Championship.

The Argentine explained his method of scouting and did a full powerpoint presentation.
