Joey Barton Wades Into Luke Shaw Debate, Uses Strange Sh*t Analogy

The Manchester United full back has been the subject of a lot of talk after being subbed at half-time against Brighton at the weekend.

Luke Shaw's future at Manchester United is being widely debated after Jose Mourinho's latest visible outburst at him, where the manager was seen raging on the sidelines at the defender during the FA Cup win over Brighton. Now Joey Barton's joined in the debate.

The 23-year-old didn't have to take a full 90 minutes of the shouting at least, with the left-back being hauled off at half time and replaced by Ashley Young.

He watched the rest of the game from the bench and goals from Romelu Lukaku plus Nemanja Matic helped the side progress to a semi final showdown with Tottenham.

Check out our video on Joey Barton's maddest moments:

Shaw has fallen completely out of favour at Old Trafford ever since his horrible injury back in 2015 and looks a shadow of the player that initially burst onto the scene with Southampton.

Joey Barton has offered his opinion on the matter and made an extremely strange analogy where he has compared Shaw to sh*t on the floor that a dog walker would step on.

Barton expects the English defender to leave Old Trafford in the future, but feels it could take him some time to recover psychologically from his struggles at United.

"He (Mourinho) kept looking at Luke Shaw as if he's something he's just stood on while walking his dog," Barton said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT.

"He just doesn't fancy him that's the reality of it and that's a young boy's career, a promising young talent.

"He wasn't a Mourinho signing so he has given him game time, he is clearly a boy that is devoid of confidence that is not reaching his full potential.

"I still think Luke Shaw will be a good player wherever he goes, but there will be a psychological rebuilding process for him because there is no way you can go through what he is going through now and not come out of that a little bit mixed up."

The whole situation is very odd. Mourinho clearly started out as a Shaw fan when he tried to sign the full-back when he was still Chelsea manager and later complained they couldn't compete with United for the player's wages.

Will Shaw be able to turn his career around?
