Lionel Messi once again found himself at the centre of the debate about 'doing it on a cold wet night in Stoke' after a wet night in Madrid forced him to swap shirts during El Clasico.

Despite winning all manner of trophies during his career, being named the Ballon d'Or winner a record six times and breaking all sorts of records, one question about Messi is oddly whether he'd be able to do it in England.

Whilst the idea of Messi moving to the more physical Premier League has always been intriguing, it was the idea of the specifically windy Bet365 Stadium in Stoke that was seen as the yardstick.

On Saturday night the heavens opened over the 'non proper' Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano during the second half of the Clasico, after Karim Benzema's backheel had lit up the occasion.

Barca's star couldn't handle the deluge as he was spotted shivering on the pitch and later had to swap his undershirt and kit as it became too much for him.

In typical fashion that led fans on Twitter to remark that it was finally proof the 33-year-old couldn't in fact handle it if he played against Championship club Stoke City at their Midlands home.

Of course the four times Champions League winner has faced English opposition in Europe's top competition on plenty of occasions and tends to do pretty well.

In 34 games against the top Premier League sides, Messi has scored 26 goals and provided six assists, but obviously none of those games were played in Stoke.

Messi wasn't able to help his side go top of La Liga on Saturday night, as Ronald Koeman's team went 2-0 down before half time from Benzema and Toni Kroos' goals.

Barca pulled one back in the second half and might have had a penalty but they now sit one point behind Real and Atletico Madrid, with eight games left for the Catalan giants.
