Wesley Fofana was completely destroyed 13 minutes into his CL debut, fans aren't impressed

Wesley Fofana was completely destroyed 13 minutes into his CL debut, fans aren't impressed

Fofana cost Chelsea £75 million.

Chelsea are currently trailing 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League and fans have pinned the blame on Wesley Fofana.

The centre back joined Chelsea from Leicester City last month for £70 million, plus add-ons.

He made his debut in Saturday's 2-1 victory over West Ham United and lined up for his Champions League debut at the Maksimir Stadium this evening full of confidence.

Zagreb took the lead inside 13 minutes however and many believe Fofana could've done much more to stop him.

A quick counter attack saw Bruno Petkovic win a header against Kalidou Koulibaly which sent Mislav Orsic on his way.

The Croatia international took it down on his chest and left Fofana in the dust after showcasing some frightening pace.

He chipped the ball over Kepa Arrizabalaga to give the home side the lead and shock Thomas Tuchel's side.

Supporters reacted to the strike and they've ripped into Fofana for failing to catch up to Orsic.

One person said: "Fofana dreamed of playing in the Champions League just so he could get skinned by some donny from Dinamo Zagreb."

Another put: "£70 million spent on Fofana and he’s just been made to look like a League 2 defender with the pace of your grandparents."

A third tweeted: "How much was Fofana again? Man can’t even run."

While someone added: "They should arrest the whole Leicester board for fraud."

Fofana spent a huge portion of last season injured after breaking his leg and Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers likened it to Liverpool missing Virgil van Dijk in defence.

He's been one of the Premier League's best young defenders since arriving from Saint-Etienne in 2020 and new boss Tuchel is glad Chelsea didn't give up the chase for the 21-year-old's signature.

"He’s young, he’s fast, he’s very strong in set-pieces, defending and attacking, and he was one of our very early targets. He has the kind of profile we had identified early as a replacement for Toni [Rudiger] and Andreas [Christensen]," he told Chelsea's official website.

Deadline day signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has started up front for the Blues but failed to make an impact on the game.

Chelsea have managed just one shot on target despite their dominance in possession.
