West Ham could appoint former Man Utd star to replace David Moyes as 'remarkable offer made'

West Ham could appoint former Man Utd star to replace David Moyes as 'remarkable offer made'

West Ham could reportedly appoint a former Man Utd star as their next manager if they part company with David Moyes.

West Ham are reportedly expected to consider approaching Manchester United legend Michael Carrick to be their next manager if they part company with David Moyes.

Moyes has guided the Hammers to continental football in consecutive seasons, and they have reached the last 16 stage of this season's Europa Conference League.

But they have struggled for form in the Premier League, and after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Brighton, sit just one point above the relegation zone.

The Guardian reported last month, as per sources, that West Ham were 'desperate' not to sack Moyes, with a desire to see the Scot be the one to turn around the side's league form.

However, The Times claim that if Moyes does depart the London Stadium, the Hammers are expected to consider Middlesbrough boss Carrick as his replacement.

The former United midfielder has done an excellent job at the Riverside Stadium since his appointment in October.

He has taken Boro from a point above the Championship relegation zone, at the time of his arrival, to third place in the table, introducing an attractive style of play at the same time.

As a Hammers youth academy graduate that went on to make over 150 appearances for the club, Carrick would also surely strike an immediate bond with the club's supporters.

But Boro remain in the hunt for promotion to the top flight themselves, so the 40-year-old may be convinced to remain at his current club.

Meanwhile, West Ham are also said to have made a 'remarkable offer' to another candidate.

West Ham make 'remarkable offer'

According to Italian outlet LaRoma24.it, the Hammers have presented the 'remarkable offer' to Roma boss Jose Mourinho, who formerly managed their London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham, as well as United.

It is claimed that Mourinho was 'flattered' by the 'rich contract', although remains focused on Roma as he looks to guide them into next season's Champions League.

La Giallorossi are currently in fourth place in Serie A, and occupy the final automatic qualification place for the competition.

They are also still in the Europa League, and take on Real Sociedad in the last 16 stage.

Mourinho revealed last month (via Football Italia) that he could have left the club in December, having been approached by Portugal to take over from Fernando Santos as head coach of the national team. Roberto Martinez was appointed as Santos' successor.

Mourinho is under contract at Roma until the summer of 2024.
