Maxwel Cornet sidelined by 'ultra rare condition that specialist has only seen twice in 25 years'

West Ham star Maxwel Cornet reportedly has an "ultra rare condition" sidelining him.

The versatile Ivorian signed for the Hammers from Burnley in a £17.5 million move, penning a five-year contract.

But he's played just five times in the Premier League, with every one of his appearances coming from the bench.

Cornet's last outing was back in October in a 2-0 home win over Wolves and he's been suffering from a persistent calf problem sustained on his full Premier League debut for West Ham.

However, West Ham site 6foot2 say that Cornet has been seeing a specialist in Paris, France, who has been surprised by what he's uncovered.

It's claimed the expert has only seen two instances of the condition Cornet has in 25 years. The former Lyon man is believed to have had two injections on his calf in a bid to loosen up the muscle but the issue still exists.

According to a club insider who 6foot2 spoke to, it's looking increasingly likely that the 26-year-old will now have to undergo surgery which would put him out of action for even longer.

He has returned to training on many occasions but ended up being back to square one. Of late he's been in the gym and not been able to train with the full group, David Moyes has explained.

“Every time he’s come back, he’s broke down with it or he’s felt as if he’s not been able to train with it," Moyes told Football.London last week.

"He’s been to see several specialists, we’ve tried some different injections, we’ve tried different things to get it going but at the moment, we’re not getting any joy with it.

"He was in Paris this week seeing a specialist and I couldn’t actually tell you [the diagnosis].

“I think they’re trying to see if something’s going to work just now before probably the last option, which would be to operate if it’s not going to heal."

West Ham are in action this evening away at Leeds United, where they will be hoping to end a wretched five-game losing run in the Premier League.
