Weston McKennie spotted on train out of Leeds after fans chant abuse at him during his final appearance

Leeds United fans clearly weren't bothered to see the back of Juventus midfielder McKennie and he took the opportunity to get out quickly.

Weston McKennie was spotted getting out of Leeds as quickly as possible, after Leeds United fans sang abuse at him as they were relegated.

The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United were linked with signing McKennie after his impressive performances for the USMNT at the World Cup last December.

In the end it was Leeds who signed the midfielder on loan from Juventus, with the hope they'd turn the deal permanent if they stayed up.

That didn't end up being the case thanks to some dreadful defending from Sam Allardyce's side, who ended up losing 4-1 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

And not too long after McKennie could be seen on the train out of Leeds as his temporary deal at Elland Road ended with an almighty whimper.

After a good World Cup, McKennie found himself in dismal circumstances at Leeds having been signed by fellow American Jesse Marsch.

However the former RB Leipzig manager was sacked about a week after the 24-year-old midfielder had arrived from Juventus until the end of the campaign.

He ended up playing under three managers with Marsch's replacement Javi Gracia also ending up being sacked and eventually replaced by Allardyce.

The former relegation escape specialist couldn't stop the club's demise and he ended up going down with his second successive club.

Fans turned on a number of players during the match and McKennie was one of those, with supporters chanting "You fat b******d" as he was subbed off.

It's no wonder he was quick to get out of the Yorkshire city and his dad sent a message to those who'd abused his son on the final day.

"All the best to LUFC! For those who supported Weston in a hostile environment you have my respect! For those who failed to remember it’s a team sport you live to fight another day," John McKennie said.

However the player's father bizarrely sent the tweet by quote tweeting a video of the famous gorilla Harambe, who died in 2016.

Harambe became a viral sensation after he was shot dead by a worker at the Cincinnati Zoo, where he lived, after a child climbed into his enclosure.
