Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's damning comments about loyalty have resurfaced amid speculation that former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo could join rivals Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

Reports have emerged that suggest City are willing to offer Ronaldo a two-year contract worth £12.8 million a season, according to Sky in Italy.

In fact, reports in France suggest the 36-year-old and his entourage are "seeking to engineer" a transfer in the coming days, with Ronaldo having spoken to a number of City players about the move, including Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo.

With just days left until the transfer window slams shut, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's future remains in the balance.

And amid the speculation, many United fans have voiced their displeasure at the possibility of a deal happening.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not exactly keen on players moving from City to United, either. Back in April, after the club were linked with a move for Sergio Aguero, he quickly played down the rumour before bringing up loyalty.

“When I played for Man Utd, if a rival club tried to sign me, and I had gone, well where’s the loyalty?" Solskjaer said.

“Loyalty is one of the values I really, really put highly. I wouldn’t expect any player who has played for a club for 10 years to want to go to their local rivals.

“It’s not for me. I know we’re professionals, but when you play for Man Utd you don’t go to Man City. We’ve had examples of that and I didn’t really agree with it.

“I won’t name names but you all know who I mean. Enough said.”

In the past, very few players have moved from one Manchester club to the other.

Perhaps the most notorious transfer involved Carlos Tevez, who spent two years at Old Trafford before joining local rivals City on a five-year deal.

Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel also played for both clubs - just ask Gary Neville what he thought about that one - as did midfielder Owen Hargreaves, who made just four appearances for the Citezens before being released in 2012.
