Wrexham and Sheffield United play out instant FA Cup classic that ends level

Wrexham and Sheffield United play out instant FA Cup classic that ends level

The club owned by Ryan Reynold thought they'd scored a late winner to knock out Championship promotion chasers Sheffield United.

National League side Wrexham thought they'd pulled off the upset of the FA Cup fourth round, before an injury time equaliser denied them the win.

In an up and down match that provided entertainment straight from the off, the non-league side came from behind before twice being ahead.

It looked like Paul Mullin's goal in the 86th minute was going to earn the Welsh side a place in the fifth round of the cup, but they had to settle for a draw.

Deep in injury time, John Egan equalised for the Blades, meaning that both teams will be in the hat for Monday's draw and will have to take part in a replay at Bramall Lane.

Wrexham might be riding high at the top of the National League and with huge money behind them, thanks to the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney, but they were still the underdogs going into the game.

Co-owner Reynolds was in attendance, and spoke well about what the community around the club means ahead of the game, with Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Mcelhenney on the phone to his fellow owner.

The Blades are flying pretty high themselves at the moment, in second in the Championship, and look good to return to the Premier League come the end of the campaign.

And it took them just over a minute, as Ollie McBurnie headed home from a corner to give the visitors the lead, which would no doubt have frustrated the hosts.

James Jones made it 1-1 in the 50th minute, after Wrexham had somehow failed to score just moments earlier in the middle of a goalmouth scramble.

They deservedly took the lead for the first time 11 minutes later, through Thomas O'Connor's goal, only for the Championship side to level things up from Oliver Norwood's goal on 65 minutes.

Things turned in Wrexham's favour once again, with Daniel Jebbison sent off for kicking one of the host's defenders in an off the ball incident.

Phil Parkinson's side were unlucky not to earn a penalty from a handball and then thought they'd won the match when Mullin struck with four minutes left.

In the stands, Reynolds understandably went wild and it looked for all the world that they would earn themselves a place in the next round.

Instead it was Egan and Sheffield United who had the last laugh, and the two sides will meet again in around 10 days time.
