Paul Merson Believes Liverpool And Man United Should've Signed Spurs' Latest 'Bargain'

Paul Merson claims Liverpool and Man United should've tried to sign Spurs' Yves Bissouma

Paul Merson has revealed his feelings on Tottenham’s new signing Yves Bissouma, claiming Liverpool and Man United should’ve made a move for him.

Bissouma completed his move from Brighton to the North London club a couple of weeks ago for a reported fee of £30 million.

The 25-year-old was an integral part of the Seagulls excellent 2021/22 season, where they achieved their highest ever Premier League finish, ending the campaign in 9th.

This excellent season capped off a brilliant four year spell on the South Coast, where the Mali international made 124 appearances, scoring six times.

The midfielder arrived at Brighton in the summer of 2018 after making his name in French football for Ligue 1 side Lille.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte will feel he has secured something of a bargain, as he appears to have bolstered his midfield options ahead of the upcoming 2022/23 season.

Bissouma has previously been linked with a move to Anfield, and Paul Merson thinks the Reds may have missed a trick by not signing the former Brighton man.

Speaking to SportsKeeda, the Sky Sports pundit said: “This is an unbelievable coup for Spurs as Yves Bissouma could’ve played for any of the other top-six sides in the Premier League.

“He’s better than Scott McTominay and Fred, I have no idea why Manchester United didn’t go in for him!

“He runs the show, affects football matches right from the get-go and is an all-round midfielder with quite a bit of Premier League experience under his belt.

“No disrespect to Spurs, but why didn’t some of the other teams look at him and consider making a move for him?"

"I look at Liverpool’s midfield and feel he could play for them, especially if someone like Fabinho were to get injured.

“£25 million in this day and age- it’s nothing. Spurs have nabbed an absolute bargain with Bissouma and he, in my opinion, has been the signing of the summer in the Premier League so far.”

After securing the signings of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay, Liverpool may now turn their attention to strengthening their midfield department.
