Aussie lad channels his inner Paddy Pimblett and produces flying triangle in pro MMA debut

Aussie lad channels his inner Paddy Pimblett and produces flying triangle in pro MMA debut

It's the sort of elite move a bloke by the name of Paddy Pimblett would be proud of.

We're used to seeing seasoned veterans pulling off these sorts of moves, but one Aussie fighter has showed just how talented he is after producing a flying triangle in his pro MMA debut.

Jordan Thomas has well and truly put UFC scouts on notice by securing an impressive victory with one of the most technical submissions in the book.

It's the sort of elite move a bloke by the name of Paddy Pimblett would be proud of.

In just his first ever professional mixed martial arts bout, Thomas proved he's got a bright future ahead of him when he finished the fight in devastating fashion.

As his opponent grappled with him against the cage in the bid to secure a takedown, Thomas saw the perfect opening to attempt something most fighters wouldn't even dare to do.

Grabbing hold off his rival's head, the Aussie then flicked his legs up and sunk in a beautiful triangle choke.

Timed to perfection, it didn't take long for Thomas' opponent to tap and the referee quickly intervened to wave off the fight.

A flying triangle doesn't come around too often unfortunately, but when they do they're a thing of sheer beauty – and Thomas' was no different.

When the young Australian shared the slick finish on his Instagram, it racked up a huge amount of likes with fans seemingly loving the highlight reel finish.

"This makes me aroused," one lad hilariously commented.

For us MMA fans, a standard triangle is pretty common way of putting someone to sleep.

We've witnessed the likes of Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, Tony Ferguson, Brian Ortega and - of course - Royce Gracie execute them to get their hands raised.

As for a flying one, well, they're very rare.

But if truth be told, there's only one man who could possibly lay claim to making that move famous.

Even prior to joining MMA's premium promotion, us tragics were going down endless rabbit holes on YouTube to find various clips of Paddy Pimblett in action during his Cage Warriors days – and there was one clip that stood out among the rest.

During Cage Warriors 90, a blonde-haired fresh-faced Pimblett produced a flying triangle to seal a legendary victory in his hometown of Liverpool, in a moment that arguably what put his name on the map.

Unlike Pimblett, though, Thomas didn't dive head-first into the crowd to celebrate.

That said, the fact that he's pulling off a Pimblett-esque move this early on in his career only bodes well for his future in the sport.
