Conor McGregor 'turned down HUGE UFC proposal for super-fight' ahead of MMA comeback

Conor McGregor 'turned down HUGE UFC proposal for super-fight' ahead of MMA comeback

Speaking ahead of his fight with Gilbert Burns, Jorge Masvidal revealed his desire to face MMA superstar Conor McGregor in the UFC octagon.

UFC star Jorge Masvidal claims that Conor McGregor ‘shot down’ a huge fight proposal and claimed that his MMA rival “doesn't want” to face him.

McGregor has been out of the octagon since he suffered a broken tibia in his second consecutive defeat to MMA star Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

The 34-year-old Irish superstar only lasted one round against Poirier in Las Vegas before the ringside doctor was forced to put a stop to the headline fight.

McGregor, who has only won two of his last five UFC fights, successfully underwent surgery on his broken leg and has been recovering from his injury on the sidelines.

The ‘Notorious’ has been tipped to make a sensational UFC comeback in 2023, with Masvidal keen for a showdown with McGregor in the octagon.

Masvidal will make his return to the octagon against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 in April after back-to-back defeats to Kamaru Usman and a loss to Colby Covington.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, ‘Gamebred’ claimed that McGregor has turned down the opportunity to fight him and is unsure why he has done so.

“I want Conor, but Conor doesn’t want me, it sucks,” he said.

“He just doesn’t want it. Every time the UFC’s brought it up, he shoots it down.

“I don’t know why. I think I’m bigger. I think I’m quicker than him, and we both know I hit harder than him.

“So, I get it, stylistically, it’s not the best for him or his brand.

“Not only am I going to beat the f**king brakes off of him, but I’m going to do it in a way that’s not good for his brand. I’m going to do it on my feet.”

Speaking at UFC 281 in November 2022, UFC president Dana White revealed that McGregor is keen to make his sensational MMA comeback in 2023.

However, White has not confirmed an official opponent or exact date for McGregor ahead of his long-awaited UFC return.

“He’s been posting videos of himself training and he’s just done filming a movie,” he told The Daily Mirror.

“He definitely wants to come back next year.”
