Drake Loses $275,000 On UFC 272 Main Event

The Drake curse is back in action, after the Canadian rapper backed Jorge Masvidal to defeat Colby Covington at UFC 272's main event.

Colby Covington's dominating performance, and unanimous decision victory, over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 left Canadian rapper Drake $275,000 down.

Covington went into his fight with former friend, turned bitter rival, Masvidal as the bookies' favourite, having lost his last fight to UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman only on a decision.

The 34-year-old had a better time in his two fights against Usman had than Masvidal had in his two attempts to become champion.

Covington was also the younger man and arguably had more tools at his disposal, despite Gamebred's better striking ability inside the octagon.

However, despite everything pointing towards a victory for the Californian, Drake decided to put a quarter of a million dollars on Masvidal winning.

Of course it didn't go well for the multi-platinum selling artist, outside of a great shot towards the end of the fourth, and a couple of follow up efforts, Drake didn't have much to shout about.

Covington dominated throughout much of the five rounds, taking his rival down on several occasions and keeping him on the mat for long periods.

When 'Chaos' was announced as the winner, thoughts turned to Drake's bet and the fact that he'd once again cursed a result in sport.

The 'curse' on the rapper is said to go back as far as 2013 and has seen many teams and sports stars that the 35-year-old has been seen with, pictured in their shirt or bet on ending up losing.

Conor McGregor, in his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Jadon Sancho, Juventus, Serena Williams and Anthony Joshua have all been 'victims' of the supposed hex in the past.

It was thought that it was lifted following Toronto Raptors victory in the NBA Championships in 2019, the team Drake supports and is closely linked to.

However it has been seen to return on other occasions and his bet on Masvidal is the latest evidence for sports stars that it might still be better to stay clear of the Canadian.
