Aussie Pop Star Cody Simpson Qualifies For The Commonwealth Games And World Championships

Cody Simpson making the Australian swim team is one of the sporting stories of the year!

Cody Simpson's lifelong dream of representing his country on the biggest swimming stage will finally come true.

The pop star has successfully qualified for the Commonwealth Games and World Titles, finishing third in the 100-metre butterfly finals at the Australian Swimming Championships.

“I didn’t even think I’d be remotely competitive until this year at the earliest, so to make the team is just a bonus on the way to Paris,” Simpson said on Amazon Prime Video.

Matthew Temple clinched first with a time of 51.50 seconds, while fellow Olympian Kyle Chalmers clocked a time of 51.67 seconds meaning he came in second place.

As for third, well, that belonged to a global music megastar by the name of Cody Simpson who touched the pool wall at 51.96.

“We have a singing dolphin in the pool here in Adelaide!” Jon Harker said in the commentary booth.

Technically the top three finishers all qualify for the Birmingham Games while the top two head to the word championships in Budapest, but because Chalmers isn't attending the world titles, he sacrifices his spot on the team for Simpson.

Simpson fell agonisingly short in his quest for a spot on the Aussie Olympic team heading to Tokyo last year, but this latest performance certainly silences all his doubters.

A talented swimmer growing up, Simpson soon found himself in the international spotlight when his musical talents propelled him into superstardom.

He has since switched his focus from the recording studio to the pool in pursuit of a spot on the Australian swimming team.

And with legendary US Olympian Michael Phelps reportedly in his corner giving him all the best tips and tricks, combined with his clear dedication and drive, it's easy to see why Simpson has come on leaps and bounds since rediscovering his love for the sport.
