Darts champion Michael Smith stunned after receiving message from football legend while on the toilet

Michael Smith has recalled the strange moment he received a message from this football legend while sat on the toilet.

Michael Smith was left stunned while sat on the toilet after receiving a text from a Real Madrid legend.

The 33-year-old, who is also known as 'Bully Boy', was crowned World Champion earlier this year during a dramatic final against Michael Van Gerwen.

Smith hit a nine-dart finish during the Championship game, just seconds after Van Gerwen missed double 12 to secure his own nine-darter, in what would prove to be one of the greatest legs in the history of the game.

Smith would then go on to secure a 7-4 win against his opponent, to win the World Championship for the first time in his career.

After securing the win, when Smith thought his life had already peaked, he was then left speechless after receiving a text message from Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos in the aftermath of the win - while he was sat on the toilet.

"The weirdest moment of the last 12 months, the one that stands out, l was in Bahrain, at the next tournament straight after the World Championship," said Smith.

"I was on the toilet, minding my own business, when I got a text message off Toni Kroos, asking if he could ring me and go on his podcast and everything.

"I nearly started crying in the toilet, screaming to the missus that I have just got a text message off him - and she replied, ‘Who the f*** is Toni Kroos?’

"When Dag [Smith's wife Dagmara] said that, it was unreal - he is probably one of the best midfielders you are ever going to see, an absolute star for Real Madrid. He still texts me now, asking me about darts and stuff. Just getting to speak to someone of his stature was incredible."

Smith will now look to defend his crown at the upcoming PDC World Championships, which kicks off tonight with Stowe Buntz and Kevin Doets, with the winner then facing Smith in the next round.
