The booking of Eddie Alvarez vs. Conor McGregor hasn't gone down well with UFC interim-featherweight champion Jose Aldo as he's asked to be released by the Zuffa promotion.

Aldo had hoped to land the McGregor rematch for UFC 205, though was passed up in favour of lightweight champion Alvarez making it his third bout outside the 145lbs limit.

The Brazilian rebounded from his devastating 13-second loss to the Irishman by claiming the interim-title, out-pointing Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 and not receiving a promised title shot has prompted the 30-year-old to ask for his release;

"Dana always said Conor couldn't hold two belts in two different divisions and he had also denied the (Alvarez) fight last week. After all this, I see I can't trust a single word that comes out of Dana White's mouth and that Conor McGregor is the one really in charge of the company. Since I'm not here to be McGregor's employee, I ask them to cancel my UFC contract."

He told Combate. As well as comparing his situation when he was the reigning featherweight champion;

"The biggest proof that Conor runs the UFC is that when I was the champion, they wouldn't let me go up to fight Anthony Pettis unless I vacated my belt. With Conor, they let him do whatever he wants. I understand that he sells lots of tickets, but it gets to a point it stops being a sport and it becomes a circus. I don't want to fight with the UFC, I just want to go on with my life and they can go on with theirs."

UFC president Dana White has since said he will call Aldo and offer a solution but not before he doubled down by saying that he wants to retire from the sport.
