Snooker star attacked by a persistent wasp mid-match in chaotic scenes, his reaction is hilarious

Snooker star Mark Williams is quite adept at overcoming most things on the snooker table, but a persistent wasp certainly threw a spanner in the works.

The Welshman took on David Gilbert in the quarter-finals of The Masters at the Alexandra Palace when a moment of chaos ensued.

Williams was 5-2 ahead of his opponent and only needed one more frame for the win.

However, a peculiar streaker decided it was time to throw everything into disarray.

The 47-year-old got set to take his shot before a game-disrupting wasp began to hover right around him.

Quite unsure exactly how to deal with the predicament, absolute chaos began to erupt.

In hilarious scenes, Williams attempted to dance and jive his way away from the pest before it landed in quite an uncomfortable region on his pants.

Williams later noted that he thought the insect ‘was going to sting my nuts at one stage’.

The wasp wasn’t keen to give up on spoiling the night as Williams attempted to swipe it away and even at one point threw a karate-style kick toward the insect.

The commentators and fans alike began to erupt in laughter at the completely odd events unrolling in front of them.

Eurosport commentator Philip Studd claimed that Willaims was ‘rather less adept at dealing with wasps than he is at potting balls’.

I mean, who really is that great at dealing with the frightening flyer?

Studd continued: “He’s doing his best John Travolta impression out there at the moment.

“Just when you think you’ve seen everything in this game.”

The three-time World Champion proceeded to grab and swirl a towel in preparation for yet another attack.

Although the wasp had other plans and a new target in mind.

Not done causing havoc at Ally Pally he took aim at one of the cameramen and found its way onto the staff member’s neck.

Referee Marcel Eckardt told the cameraman not to move as he tried his best to smack the insect with a towel.

Fans couldn’t help but laugh as the cameraman had an awkward smile on his face.

Commentator Dominic Dale quipped: “Where’s David Attenborough when you need him?”

Eventually, the wasp decided he was done with disrupting one of the biggest games of the snooker season and retreated as supporters applauded.

Williams kept his nerve despite the situation to secure a 6-2 win.
