Last moments of Aussie rugby league star revealed before his tragic death in a Barcelona nightclub

Last moments of Aussie rugby league star revealed before his tragic death in a Barcelona nightclub

Details and an image of Liam Hampson have emerged following his tragic death at Sala Apolo nightclub.

The final photo and moments before Australian rugby league player Liam Hampson tragically fell to his death have emerged.

Hampson, who plays for the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Queensland Cup, was found dead at the Sala Apolo nightclub after going missing for 30 hours.

The Herald Sun reports that cleaning staff discovered his body, with Spanish police speculating he fell 10 metres to his death.

Now an image has emerged of Hampson smiling and laughing in the background of a photograph of friend and fellow league player Jordan Rikki kissing a woman on the cheek.

Hampson would later become separated from his group of friends as they left the nightclub in the early hours of Tuesday (October 19) morning.

He had been holidaying in Europe with Gold Coast Titans player AJ Brimson and Broncos players Jesse Arthars and Jordan Riki.

FoxSports reports that Sala Apolo club director Mr Guijarro had spoken to local radio program Versio RAC1 about the incident.

According to Guijarro, a CCTV camera had captured Hamspon leaving the main room of the nightclub to go through one of the emergency doors, even as one of his friends attempted to stop him.

Guijarro says Hampson went through the doors in order to urinate but could not re-enter as the doors were closed and locked from within.

He then attempted to scale a wall and jump over it before falling through a 10-metre hole through which ducts pass.

Guijarro added that club staff could hear a mobile phone ringing as his friends were attempting to contact him but couldn’t find where it was coming from.

The Daily Telegraph reports confirmed a similar story, with Hampson being locked out in an attempt to find a toilet.

Meanwhile, regional police officers revealed that Hampson’s body was found inside an ‘internal patio’ that normally cannot be accessed by attendees of the club.

Mossos d’Esquadra officers told Daily Mail Australia: “It was in an internal patio which was not part of the public area of the nightclub.

“I don’t know how he would have got into that part of the building but he accessed it and from there fell around 10 metres to an interior patio.

“The fact it wasn’t a public area helps to explain why the workers who raised the alarm didn’t do so until Wednesday lunchtime local time.”

The Sala Apolo nightclub extended its condolences to Hampson’s family and committed to assisting authorities with the investigation, in a statement to News Corp.

They said: “These are sad and very painful moments, first of all for all the people who are affected by the unforeseeable accident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday 18th October in the outdoor area of Apolo venue.

“It’s been sad as well for those of us who are part of the organisation.

“The management and the entire Apolo team are beyond appalled by what happened and we express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Liam Hampson.

“We have placed ourselves at the disposal of the Mossos d’Esquadra police force and will continue to do so in relation to any matter concerning the fatal accident.”
