Emotional Latrell Mitchell chokes up as he's met with a spine-tingling reception from fans

This is what it's all about!

Latrell Mitchell was left speechless after receiving an incredible reception from the South Sydney Rabbitohs fans.

The Bunnies fullback had just guided his side to a huge 30-14 victory over their local rivals, sending the Chooks crashing out fo the NRL finals.

The atmosphere inside the brand new Allianz Arena was electrifying, and the sin-bin-athon match itself wasn't too bad either – and there was one man who well and truly took the game by the scruff off the neck.

Despite coming under fire from opposition fans in recent weeks, Mitchell hit right and decided to let his footy do the talking against his former club.

Speaking to Channel 9's Brad Fittler on the field after the game, an emotional Mitchell was greeted with a huge roar from the green and red fans.

Before Mitchell even had a chance to answer Fittler's first question, someone turned up the volume inside Allianz Arena as the main man was given a reception like no other.

Clearly overwhelmed with emotion, a choked-up Mitchell struggled to find words as he looked around to take in the spine-tingling moment.

Even Fittler, a man who has played in his fair share of big games, admitted he'd never heard that much noise in a stadium before.

For Mitchell, who hadn't played in the finals since 2019, he was visibly shaken by the heartwarming ovation.

"It's pretty emotional. It's a ripper tonight," he said.

"I'm so glad Souths fans turned up and give it back and support us all the way. It's how it's been all year and I know it hasn't gone the way we wanted, but we're starting the new season.

In the build-up to the hotly-contested derby, Mitchell had spoken out publicly about being booed by Roosters supporters the previous weekend, even comparing his treatment to that of AFL legend Adam Goodes who was racially abused by fans.

"Adam Goodes gave up his career because of it [booing]," Mitchell told The Daily Telegraph last week.

"It's not nice because we cop it every day as it is, and regardless of what happens on the field, it stays on the field. They [the fans] have control over what they do when they come watch a game."

Mitchell's high-flying Rabbitohs now face the Cronulla Sharks in the semi-final, a team who are fresh off the back of a loss to the North Queensland Cowboys.
