Rugby World Cup Winner Arrested On Airplane For Allegedly Breaking TV And Swearing At Passengers

He was greeted by authorities as soon as he touched back down at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

South African rugby player Elton Jantjies has been arrested after allegedly breaking a TV screen before swearing at passengers and crew members on a flight home from Turkey.

The rugby World Cup winner was reportedly returning from a holiday in Turkey when he started kicking off during the 10-hour journey.

His behaviour has seemingly landed him in hot water as Jantjies was greeted by authorities when he touched down at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

He has now been charged with malicious damage to property and contravening aviation laws.

The Springboks star appeared in Kempton Park magistrates court but was released from custody on bail the same day with his case postponed until next month.

Gauteng police spokeswoman Col Athlenda Mathe told Eyewitness News radio that his bail was set at $60.

Jantjies' agent James Adams claimed that the details of the incident have been blown out of proportion.

“We believe that the incident has unnecessarily been heightened,” Adams said.

“Our client, however, remains compliant with the investigation process.”

Jantjies has played 41 tests for South Africa, scoring a total of 309 points.

The 31-year-old was the backup flyhalf to Handre Pollard when South Africa won the 2019 World Cup in Japan.
