Wasps winger Paolo Odogwu saw himself sent off against Sale Sharks on Friday night after a brutal kick to the face of an opponent.

Odogwu went up for a high ball late in the game and when he had it in mid-air, he appeared to kick out his leg and catch Rohan Janse Van Rensburg clean in the face.

The 22-year-old saw himself sent off for the challenge but he appeared to be bewildered at his dismissal.

He was also seen to be laughing when the red card was brandished by referee Tom Foley.

Wasps players were quick to check on their downed opponent but he appeared conscious as he hit the ground.

Fans on Twitter reacted to the challenge and they all claim that Odogwu knew what he was doing when swinging his leg out.

However, some think the 22-year-old was hard done by with the dismissal against his former side and think rugby being a contact sport means it is prone to these sorts of incident.

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire that he thought the kick wasn't intentional.

"It was a red card. It might seem a bit harsh as there was nothing intentional, but his foot comes out and connects and, in today's climate, that's a red card." he said after the game per Daily Mail.

It is hard to tell whether the winger meant it or not but it did look very nasty in the footage.
