Tennis Player Denis Shapovalov Yells 'Shut The F**k Up' At Italian Open Crowd

Tennis Player Denis Shapovalov Yells 'Shut The F**k Up' At Italian Open Crowd

The Canadian completely and utterly lost it.

Denis Shapovalov had a complete and utter meltdown at the Italian Open in Rome, telling the crowd to "shut the f**k up" at one point.

The Canadian was facing off against Lorenzo Sonego in the tournament's round of 64 when he Shapovalov lost his cool and snapped at the umpire before taking aim at the fans in attendance.

After winning the 91-minute first set on a tie-break, Shapovalov found himself fighting to remain in the second set of the match.

The world No.16 was then seemingly upset when the umpire slapped him with a penalty for crossing the net to point out a mark on the court where he thought the ball had landed.

"Denis, Denis, listen. Because you crossed the net, you're going to get another code violation," chair umpire Richard Hague said.

"You can't cross the net."

But Shapovalov simply wasn't having it.

"No way, I was just showing you the mark. I wasn't doing anything unsportsmanlike. How can you give me a point penalty?" he replied.

"Can you call the supervisor because that's bulls**t.

"That's stupid. That's so unfair."

He was growing increasingly-irate as the supervisor arrived on scene.

"I wasn't doing anything offensive," Shapovalov added.

"I was showing him the mark because he couldn't see it. This is so stupid."

But as the 23-year-old continued his back-and-forth with officials, the crowd inside the arena began booing and it clearly rubbed a very fired-up Shapovalov up the wrong way.

"Shut the f**k up," he yelled at the spectators, which only saw the chorus of boos get even louder.

Incredibly, Shapovalov dropped the second set 3-6 but went on to clinch a 6-3 win in the third set to secure the match.

The duo ended up battling it out on the court for a total of three hours and ten minutes.

Speaking after the match, the Canadian admitted that he lost his temper

“A lot of things happened in the heat of the moment. I need to be better with my behaviour,” Shapovalov said.

“It was my mistake. I’ll know the rule for next time. I definitely won’t step over the net.”
