Tennis fans claim 'Netflix curse' is real after all 10 players from Break Point crash out of Australian Open

Tennis fans are convinced the ‘Netflix Curse’ is real after Felix Auger-Aliassime was knocked out of the Australian Open in the fourth round.

The Canadian fell three sets to one to Czech star Jiri Lehecka in yet another upset in the tournament.

It signalled the tenth and final member of the Netflix docuseries Break Point to be knocked out of the tournament.

Auger-Aliassime had a fantastic finish to 2022 with titles in Florence, Antwerp, and Basel and was predicted to do well in Australia.

He was the last of 10 players still vying for the championship in Melbourne who had featured in the Netflix series.

He had initially brushed off the ‘curse’ ahead of his fourth-round tie.

On the conspiracy theory, he said: "I thought it was funny.

"I don't know. I don't think it's connected … Maybe the players that lost, maybe they do feel like it's connected, somehow. I don't think they do. I don't think it's connected, anyhow."

The likes of Nick Kyrgios pulled out of the tournament before it had even kicked off, as had fellow Australian Ajla Tomljanovic with knee injuries.

Another Aussie, Thanasi Kokkinakis, appeared in the promotional material for the documentary series.

He then fell victim to a comeback victory from Andy Murray in the second round.

Others who appeared in the series included Matteo Berrettini, Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur, Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz, and Maria Sakkari.

All are out of the tournament due to injury or being knocked out.

And fans are convinced it was because of their involvement in Break Point.

One wrote: “The Netflix curse claims its final victim.”

Another said: “The Netflix Curse waits for no man and no woman. The last player standing - Felix Auger-Aliassime - is OUT.”

A third commented: “They’re all gone. The Netflix curse is real.”

The streaming platform will release five more episodes of the series later this year ahead of Wimbledon.

Superstitions will surely be running wild once that tournament rolls around.
