Nick Kyrgios To Feature In Upcoming Netflix Docuseries, His Wimbledon Final Will Be A Focus Point

Nick Kyrgios To Feature In Upcoming Netflix Docuseries, His Wimbledon Final Will Be A Focus Point

The docuseries will be shot in a similar vein to Formula 1: Drive to Survive and be a behind-the-scenes look at the world of tennis.

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is set to star in the upcoming Netflix fly-on-the-wall documentary series.

The docuseries will be shot in a similar vein to Formula 1: Drive to Survive after the streaming giant decided that sports documentaries were a massive cash maker.

Netflix has signed off on having the Wimbledon finalist as a feature star of the series before he began his epic journey to the final to face off against Novak Djokovic.

His journey to the final, on and off-court antics, as well as the final itself are set to be a massive storyline point for the series.

The Netflix crew even reportedly followed Kyrgios to his post-match party following the Wimbledon party.

Perhaps he partied with the lady who had ‘700 drinks’ in the final.

Given the success that Drive to Survive had it’s no surprise that Netflix secured agreements with ATP, WTA, as well as all four Grand Slam tournaments to have exclusive access to behind-the-scenes dealings.

Filming began at the Australian Open this year, and whilst there isn’t a confirmed name or timeline penned in for the series yet, ATP President Andrea Gaudenzi suspects it will air before the next Aus Open in 2023, according to Germany’s Tennis Magazin

The tennis doco will be produced by Box to Box Films - the same production company that worked on Drive to Survive

Gaudenzi told the magazine: “We want to get more fans excited about tennis. We show many behind-the-scenes of the Tour, a different face of the players, who they are, what they do and what it means to be a year-round tennis pro.

“I’ve never been a big fan of Formula 1, but watching the Netflix documentary Drive to Survive gave me a different perspective. It created a spark in me that I need to watch the next race to understand the personalities.

“We are in the entertainment business and we want to tell stories. Live matches cannot be the only product we offer.

"Today, 50 per cent of media consumption is not live events. Especially through social media, viewers want to be part of other stories."

Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini confirmed he was also being filmed at the Australian Open for the Netflix series, whilst Sporting News reports the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nada, Carlo Alcaraz, Iga Swiatez, and Elena Rybakina will feature.
