Tennis star Jessica Pegula drank a beer in her press conference to help her drug test

Tennis star Jessica Pegula drank a beer in her press conference to help her drug test

Pegula lost to Iswa Swiatek in the quarter finals of the US Open but it didn't stop her enjoying a beer whilst being asked questions.

American tennis star Jessica Pegula enjoyed a beer in her post match press conference, after losing in the US Open to Iswa Swiatek, in order to make sure she could do her drugs test, as she explained in the video below.

Pegula was playing in her home major against the world number one Swiatek in the quarter finals, having made her way through the first four rounds with relative ease.

The Polish star, who is the number one ranked women's player at Flushing Meadows, proved to be too much for the eighth ranked player.

Swiatek came through 6-3, 7-6, needing a tie break in the second set, in order to set up a semi final against former world number two Aryna Sabalenka.

However, the spotlight was on Pegula after the match, with the 28-year-old heading into her post match press conference with a can of Heineken.

When one member of the press complimented her on it, the New Yorker said, "Thanks, I'm trying to pee for doping, so... Although it does help ease the loss "

You can't help but feel that the part where it helped deal with the loss was more significant than her drugs test, especially as she could have just drunk water for that purpose.

Not only that, but the New Yorker revealed her own frustration at coming up against Swiatek once again, saying, "I wish I didn’t have to play Iga every quarter final or Ash Barty which seem to be the people that don’t really lose often."

This year Pegula has got to the quarter finals of three of the grand slams, losing to then number one Ash Barty in the Australian Open, before Barty retired.

She has since lost to Swiatek, who took over the number one ranking from Barty, in both the French and US Opens, with only a loss in the third round against Petra Martic at Wimbledon the exception.

Pegula doesn't really need to work as hard as she does, in order to be in the world's top 10, as she comes from a pretty wealthy family.

Her parents are Terry and Kim Pegula, who own NFL side Buffalo Bills and NHL side Buffalo Sabres, and are billionaires.

Swiatek will now take on sixth seed Aryna Sabalenka in the semi final, as she attempts to win her first slam outside of Roland Garros' clay courts.

On the other side of the draw, Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, who has already beaten Coco Gauff on the way to the final four, takes on Tunisian Ons Jabeur, who won Wimbledon.

Whatever happens, Pegula will likely be watching with a beer in hand...
