One year anniversary of when two Aussie newsreaders absolutely ripped into Novak Djokovic

One year anniversary of when two Aussie newsreaders absolutely ripped into Novak Djokovic

One year ago, two anchors made headlines around the world after they sprayed Djokovic in off-air footage that was leaked on social media.

It'll always be remembered as one of the funniest yet most controversial moments in Australian television history.

Exactly one year ago, two Aussie newsreaders made headlines around the world when they committed the biggest cardinal sin an anchor can make: forgetting they were sitting in front of multiple cameras and microphones which were still rolling.

Granted, in all fairness to them, they weren't live on-air during a television broadcast at the time.

But still, surely you can't take any chances – unfortunately for this duo, they did.

Back at the start of 2022, when the height of the Novak Djokovic-vaccine saga was reaching its boiling point, two Aussie presenters let the world know how they really felt about the situation ahead of the Australian Open.

While they were off air, Channel 7 newsreaders Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor began spraying Novak Djokovic behind, what they thought, was closed doors.

Just as they were preparing to go live on-air for their 6pm segment, Maddern and Amor discussed their thoughts on the developing Djokovic case and his potential deportation from Australia.

Under the impression they weren't being heard by a live television audience, the duo didn't hold back in their assessments and unloaded on tennis' world No.1.

"Whatever way you look at it, Novak Djokovic is a lying, sneaky, a***hole," Maddern said.

"It's unfortunate that everybody else stuffed up around him. To go out when you know you're Covid-positive - well, I don't think he was even Covid-positive."

Amor then chimed in, adding: "You've got a bulls**t f**king excuse and then he fell over his own f**king lies, which is what happens right? That's what's happened."

Incredibly, the raw footage - which wasn't meant to leave the Channel 7 studio - was somehow leaked and eventually made its way onto social media where it instantly went viral.

At the time, it was believed the leaking was done internally from a Channel 7 employee, as the company's Director of News and Public Affairs Craig McPherson vowed to come down hard on the "underhanded" and "cowardly act" of the culprits.

But a few days later, a report from The Australian newspaper suggested Ai-Media were behind the leak and Channel 7 therefore cleared its employees of any wrongdoing.
