Innovative Racing League Gets Underway At Newcastle On Thursday Night With £1.8m Up For Grabs

Horse Racing's new initiative, the Racing League 2021 gets underway at Newcastle Racecourse this Thursday with six weeks of exciting, competitive and pulsating action in store, which hopes to bring a new audience and greater social engagement to the sport of horse racing.

The Racing League will see 12 teams compete against each other on six Thursday evenings at racecourses across the country including Lingfield, Doncaster, Newcastle and Windsor as they attempt to be crowned the inaugural winners of the Racing League 2021.

The premise of the competition will essentially see 36 handicap races staged over the six weeks with each team consisting of between two and four trainers, three jockeys and a squad of 30 horses, with new horses entering the competition from the fourth week onwards.

All 36 events are handicap races which are open to horses which are three-years-old and above and have a handicap rating of 0-90. A handicap rating is assigned to a horse once it has three runs - the higher the mark, the better the horse.

Each race has a guaranteed field of 12 runners and has a prize money of a staggering £50,000 per race, a significant investment which will prove a huge fillip to jockeys, trainers and owners. In total, there is £1.8 million of prize money up for grabs, an astonishing amount of money for races of this calibre.

One of the teams in the competition are Team ODDSbible and everyone at LADbible Group wishes the team the best of luck in their attempts to "bring racing home."

Team ODDSbible's Racing Manager is Sam Sangster, he will decide which horses run in which races by liaising closely with our stable of trainers. They include Alan King who tasted Group One success at Goodwood earlier this week when Trueshan capturing the Group One Goodwood Cup. The three other trainers are fellow Group One winning handlers Martyn Meade, Roger Charlton and Brian Meehan.

Team ODDSbible's three jockeys for the competition are former champion apprentice Jason Watson, Thore Hammer-Hansen and Martin Dwyer. Dwyer is one of a select band of jockeys who has won the Derby, Oaks and Coronation Cup, with success in the latter coming earlier this year aboard Pyledriver. With Glorious Goodwood also taking place this week, Group One winning rider PJ McDonald and Trevor Whelan will be wearing the yellow silks for the team at Newcastle on Thursday night.

ODDSbible has one of the biggest audiences for sport on social media anywhere in the world and is part of the global LADbible Group. Team ODDSbible are 14/1 to win the competition outright and Josh Akers, Head of ODDSbible, is relishing the beginning of the event. He said: "We're delighted to have Team ODDSbible participating in Racing League and it's a great opportunity for us to help promote and the grow the incredible sport of racing to the social generation. "LADbible Group has a global audience approaching 1 billion and we're excited to showcase Racing League and the great stories that will come from it over the course of the summer on ODDSbible, the largest betting community in the world."

Racing Manager Sam Sangster has the job, akin to Gareth Southgate, of honing a harmonious squad capable of challenging for silverware and looking ahead to the competition, he remarked: "We were all incredibly excited to hear of our new sponsor, not only will they help bring a new audience to the sport but they will push our team to provide exciting content for them and hopefully show their followers how thrilling racing can be."
