Quick-acting referee Jason Herzog prevented a potentially embarrassing wardrobe malfunction during a bantamweight fight at UFC Vegas 15 this weekend.
Brazilian Norma Dumont defeated Ashlee Evans-Smith by unanimous decision in her first fight since February 2020. However one notable moment came when Dumont had mounted her rival, looking to obtain an early finish.
In trying to shift Dumont, Evans-Smith accidentally began to push her opponent's sports bra up.

However Herzog spotted the situation, very briefly paused the fight, pulled Dumont's top back into place, then let the fighters know they were OK to continue.
Herzog - an experienced UFC regular - didn't separate the fighters, while the official's work was done quickly and efficiently. Most fans didn't even notice at the time and it certainly didn't change the course of the fight.
Naturally, when fans spotted the moment on social media, they were quick to praise Herzog for dealing with the situation so deftly and preventing any exposure.
Evans-Smith avoided the submission following the brisk restart, taking the fight to the judge's scorecards. Dumont, who was considered a slight underdog going into the event, improved her MMA record to 5-1 with the decision.

The 30-year-old fighter had originally failed to make weight, coming in at 3.5lb over the bantamweight limit in Las Vegas. That cost Dumont 30% of her fight purse.
But, thanks to Herzog's actions, at least that was the only embarrassing situation 'The Immortal' found herself in this weekend.
Would Mike Dean be so rapid and efficient if a Premier League star striker's shorts began rucking up in a potentially dangerous manner? We can but wait and wonder to find out.
