UFC president Dana White has hinted that 'Fight Island' judges are facing the sack for their part in Alexander Volkanovski's controversial victory over Max Holloway.

Volkanovski retained his featherweight title on a split-decision in the co-main event but many fans didn't agree with the call.

David Lethaby voted in favour of Holloway, while Mark Collett and Clemens Werner scored those to Volkanovski in addition to the final three rounds.

Following the event, White gave his thoughts and admitted Holloway will feel hard done by.

"You can't leave it to these guys. We've got some bad judging," he stated per talkSPORT.

"I'm sure [Holloway] is devastated. Did anybody here score it for Volkanovski? Anybody? Nobody in the media?

"I don't know. We'll have to figure it out. Looks like we've got to tighten up our refs and judges here on Fight Island."

White then vented his frustration at the Petr Yan vs Jose Aldo contest, which saw Yan win the vacant bantamweight title.

Despite his victory, the big talking point post-fight was the heavy punishment Aldo took before referee Eric Roberts' interference.

Yan took the Brazilian down to the ground and pummeled him relentlessly before Roberts stopped the fight.

White praised Aldo's performance but was quick to question the officiating.

"I thought Aldo looked great, for people that were criticizing him saying he doesn't deserve another title shot," he said. "Horrible, horrible stoppage by the referee."

The evening's main event saw Kamaru Usman retain his welterweight title against Jorge Masvidal, who stepped in and replaced original challenger Gilbert Burns.

Masvidal flew out of the blocks early with leg kicks in the opening round but Usman's canny fighting style prevailed in the end.

The 'Nigerian Nightmare' remains undefeated in the UFC but Masvidal has stated he will be back stronger for a rematch down the line.
