Israel Adesanya Blames Flabby Pec At UFC 253 On Smoking Too Much Weed

UFC middleweight champ has some news to get off his chest.

Israel Adesanya has given a bizarre explanation for the flabby right pec spotted by fans at UFC 253.

It didn't prevent 'The Last Stylebender' dominating Paulo Costa to defend his middleweight title. But it was a post-fight talking point, as the usually lean and lithe Adesanya definitely had one drooping pectoral.

"What's up with Izzy right tit," was Jon Jones' question, shared on Twitter. And now it seems the 31-year-old has finally provided an answer. A very strange answer.

After ruling out more serious health concerns, Adesanya went right ahead and blamed the devil's lettuce. Yes, apparently smoking weed is behind all this.

"My pituitary gland was checked, hormone levels are fine, so are estrogen and testosterone," Adesanya told Ariel Helwani (as per the Middle Easy). "Yesterday we had an ultrasound and a mammogram, I had one for the first time.

"To be honest it might have been unhealthy living a little bit. Like smoking weed, that's what the doctor from the UFC said.

"He said I need to stop but I said I'm not stopping, I'm just going to slow down on the smoking weed."

It should be pointed out that, while a growing number of US states are legalising the use of marijuana, Adesanya has never failed a drug test during his spell in the UFC.

He did also reassure fans that it was just a fatty deposit on his chest, and that the swelling has gone down and is feeling better.

The Nigerian-born Kiwi boasts a perfect 20-0 record in MMA and has his sights set on a move to light-heavyweight in 2021 to become a two-weight champion. Clearly, his right pec is already ahead of the game in terms of adding extra weight.

While Adesanya is apparently blaming cannabis for his chest swelling, others have speculated that it could be something as simple as an injury created by repetitive trauma, which can cause pseudogynecomastia.

Or, hey, maybe it's just because Izzy is all about that chronic life, like the doc says. We're certainly not going to argue with 'The Last Stylebender' and let's hope his minor problem sorts itself out soon.
