Khabib Nurmagomedov's manager Ali Abdelaziz has revealed that the UFC champion's father, Abdulmanap, will have the final say on a blockbuster rematch with Conor McGregor.

A lucrative rematch between Nurmagomedov and McGregor has been mooted since their epic first meeting in October 2018.

However, Nurmagomedov remains reluctant to give McGregor a rematch following his submission victory at UFC 229.

But the decision on a potential second fight rests on the UFC star's father, who's the "boss" according to Abdelaziz.

"I'm not the boss. [Khabib's] not the boss. His father's the boss, and whatever his father wants, that's what's going to happen," he explained.

"Khabib has no say so. I have no say so. His father has the say.

"If his father wakes up in the morning and says, 'Boys get it together, we're fighting Conor,' we're fighting Conor."

The UFC lightweight king was forced to withdraw from UFC 249 due to circumstances regarding the coronavirus crisis.

As a result, the UFC have moved on by making Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Gaethje for the interim-lightweight title which will headline the stacked UFC 249 on May 9.

And the plan is to have the winner face the undefeated Russian fighter in late 2020.

"The Ferguson vs. Gaethje fight is one of the most violent fights you will see," Dana White told ESPN.

"I can guarantee that. This fight is going to be incredible. The winner will fight Khabib for the title. This is for the interim. 100 percent (the winner fights Khabib)."

McGregor, meanwhile, had hoped to fight his arch rival following his triumphant UFC comeback against Donald Cerrone, but he'll have to wait until the lightweight picture clears up.

He could, though, face Nate Diaz in a trilogy bout which has reportedly been discussed for UFC's Fight Island.
