Conor McGregor Reacts To Max Holloway Saying ‘I'm The Best Boxer In The UFC’

Conor McGregor has reacted on Twitter to Max Holloway's bold mid-fight claim of "I'm the best boxer in the UFC!"

During his dominant decision win over tough Calvin Kattar on Saturday, Holloway spoke to the commentary team and - during a dazzling sequence in the final round - dropped his fists, dodged a flurry of punches and proclaimed his boxing supremacy.

The clip of Holloway's skills and statement was soon all over Twitter. And McGregor, widely viewed as one of the greatest strikers in UFC history, shared it with a simple message: "Lol".

McGregor beat Holloway by unanimous decision in the Irishman's second fight in the UFC, back in the summer of 2013.

However both men have gone on to achieve a great deal since, both winning the UFC featherweight championship, while McGregor has also held the lightweight title.

Holloway backed up his elite boxing boasts on Saturday, scoring his first win since July 2019. The 29-year-old landed vicious head strikes, brutal body shots and some lethal spinning attacks as he set a UFC record of 445 significant strikes at UFC Fight Island 7.

The commentary team compared Holloway's amazing head movement to boxing's current pound-for-pound No 1 Canelo Alvarez. But the reflexes trick was actually right out of the Muhammad Ali textbook.

But it seems power-punching McGregor - who returns to the Octagon next weekend in a rematch with Dustin Poirier - is clearly not entirely impressed.

Holloway and McGregor have actually shown mutual respect over the years, but that didn't stop the Hawaiian saying that he'd gladly fill in for Poirier if 'The Diamond' should need to pull out of UFC 257.

"If anything happens, Dana [White] knows my number and he can hit me up," said Holloway after his 50-43, 50-43 and 50-42 victory over Kattar.

That seems highly unlikely given Holloway just fought on Fight Island this weekend, seven days before McGregor's return.

However Conor can lay down a marker of his own claim to be the No 1 boxer in the UFC if he can match Holloway's hit-and-not-be-hit masterclass by defeating Poirier for a second time.
