Jose Aldo turned Urijah Faber's left leg purple after hitting him with a series of brutal "leg kicks from hell" in their featherweight title bout at WEC 48.

Ahead of their ventures into UFC, the pair locked horns in the main event of WEC's first and only pay-per-view at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California.

And the bout will be remembered for Aldo putting on an absolute masterclass in strikes to the leg. In total, Faber took 31 devastating leg kicks across 25 minutes and lost via unanimous decision.

He did extremely well to see out the full duration of the fight such was the punishment he took to the leg. From very early on, Aldo kept coming with the wincing kicks and it caused immense difficulty for Faber.

"I trained a lot of defensive leg kicks, but he's really effective with them," Faber said after the defeat.

"He took my legs away from me. I was losing mobility."

Someone put together a four minute video of every single leg kick landed by Aldo in the bout and it's hard to find a better fighter for attacking the opponent's leg so viciously.

Faber posted a picture of his leg in a right old state as a result of the savage onslaught, his left leg looking battered and bruised to the point where it looked like he'd been whipped.

Carmichael Dave caught up with a crutch-carrying Faber at his house a day after the loss and he admitted the leg kicks did some serious damage.

"I was in a lot of pain to be honest with you," he said in a YouTube video.

"From the second round, middle/end of the second round, throughout the fight it was pretty painful in my legs.

"His leg kicks are deceiving, man. It feels like I was getting hit with a bat. He caught me with a couple in the first round and they were starting to accumulate.

"I think he caught me with six or seven in the second round and I'm not sure exactly when but I went to the corner and it looked like I had softballs. It was all lumped on my legs. I was immobile after that.

"My leg is the same colour as my swimming shirts. My leg's twice the size as it should be."

Aldo, having lost to Petr Yan in a bantamweight title bout at UFC 251 in July, will be looking to dish out more leg kicks and get back to winning ways against Marlon Vera at UFC Vegas 17 on Saturday.
