Paulie Malignaggi won't let his rivalry with Conor McGregor go away, despite the American admitting a fight between the pair is unlikely to happen.

The two men's rivalry goes back to their sparring session ahead of the Irishman's one and only professional boxing fight to date, against Floyd Mayweather in August 2017.

Since then they have exchanged shots verbally but the closest Malignaggi has come to throwing hands was a loss in Bare Knuckle FC to McGregor's stable mate Artem Lobov.

Speaking to ODDSbible the American said he thinks a fight between him and the Notorious is unlikely but still found time to take a shot:

The 39-year-old from Brooklyn revealed he thinks McGregor is frustrated after a couple of losses in boxing and UFC in recent year, saying, "You know the problem with McGregor is he's a frustrated guy. He's been getting smacked around for years now, for years now all he's been doing is smacked around.

"You know the only thing he's going to beat up these days are the old men in a pub, you know. Even that, would be a tough time if the old man was able to get up off the stool and give him a couple of shots, you know.

"So, I don't know, I think he's got his own issues to worry about. I don't think me and him is going to be a conversation.

"But of course I have no problem abusing him, because I don't like him and he knows I don't like him."

As well as his loss against Mayweather, just over two years ago, the Notorious lost in his most recent UFC fight, against Khabib Nurmagomedov last October.

It means that, including his two fights with Nate Diaz, the former two weight UFC champion has lost three of his last five fights against boxing and MMA.

He finally gets the chance to put that right in January when he returns to action to face Donald Cerrone and there's a chance he'll be eyeing a title in a third division.

Having beaten Jose Aldo for the flyweight title and Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight championship the Irishman faces the Cowboy at Welterweight.
