Dustin Poirier's Coach Doesn't Think A Fourth Fight With Conor McGregor Is Necessary

Dustin Poirier's coach hasn't ruled out a fourth fight with Conor McGregor but has claimed it's 'unnecessary' as Poirier had won the first round and 'only gets stronger' in fights.

UFC 264's main event between the two lightweight rivals was unfortunately brought to a premature end as McGregor broke his leg at the conclusion of the first round.

With both men having won a fight each going into the trilogy, it really could have done with a conclusive end, and not one forced by injury.

McGregor was stretchered off after the fight and Dana White suggested there would be a fourth fight once the Irishman had recovered from surgery, which he had on Sunday.

However Poirier's camp isn't too sure about the need for it, with coach Mike Brown claiming another fight is unnecessary.

"I don't think [a fourth fight is necessary]," Poirier's coach told MMAFighting.

"But who knows where they'll be when Conor gets healthy and is back in there. We'll see where he goes. He's got a journey ahead of him.

"Maybe he needs to fight somebody else and get a win or two to get back up there but he's also the biggest star in the sport.

"He's changed the game, done so much for the sport. He's the biggest star the sport has ever seen. He brings a lot of eyeballs.

"He's done a lot of great things but I think skill wise, we've got the superior fighter with Dustin."

Analysing the fight, Brown suggested that McGregor wouldn't have won, even if his leg hadn't given way under him and broken.

The Diamond's coach explained that the 10-8 first round, which his fighter dominated on the ground, was proof that the American was going to win anyway.

"If you look at the history of both of these guys, one of them gets stronger as the fight goes and one of them doesn't.

"Conor was going to be most dangerous in the first [round], and I felt like as the fight went, it was only going to get easier."

It will be a while before a fourth fight does happen though, with White confirming the former two weight champion won't be back until next year.
