Conor McGregor has thanked musician Justin Bieber for his message of support, ahead of the Irishman's trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier next week.

McGregor's last outing was a loss to Poirier in January, the second time the two men had met, and was the first time the Irishman had been in action for about a year.

There were plenty of questions about McGregor's future following the loss, his second in three outings in the octagon, and lots of criticism from those in the sport, including rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

One man who backed him was Bieber, with the Canadian recording artist posting a picture of the Notorious on Instagram alongside the caption "Love this guy win or lose."

Now former two weight UFC champion McGregor has had the chance to publicly thank the 'Baby' artist in an Instagram live ahead of the rubber fight with the 'Diamond' on Saturday.

During the Irishman's video, Bieber joined in and McGregor said, "Justin Bieber! What's up, Justin Bieber? Love you brother.

"This [IG Live] is quality man, this is good yeah, I just wanted to check this out.

"Justin, I love you, bro, I'll tell you what mate, I appreciate the message from the last fight - that meant a hell of a lot to me, really, truly did.

"So I've been busy putting in the work, full focused, fully immersed in Mixed Martial Arts, there's been nothing but Mixed Martial Arts - I'm ready to put on a show."

Bieber performed at Jake Paul's win over Ben Askren recently but he could have been a lot closer to getting in on a bit of combat sport action.

Two years ago the 27-year-old said he wanted to fight Tom Cruise in an MMA bout, something that Dana White might have agreed to put on.

Then in January, just a few weeks before McGregor's loss, Bieber attempted to reignite the feud with the Mission Impossible actor.

Someone needs to put that fight on, maybe McGregor would agree to help him friend...
