Manchester United predicted XI to face Newcastle United: Cristiano Ronaldo to keep place as McTominay suspended

Manchester United's predicted XI to face Newcastle United in the Premier League as Erik ten Hag looks to re-build momentum.

Manchester United will face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag will be looking to continue his sides good form after three wins against Omonia (twice) and Everton.

As the season has progressed, Erik ten Hag's XI is starting to look more and more settled, and when combined with the current injuries, a lot of the side starts to pick itself.

The major positions that are currently contested are the two deeper midfield spots, left-back and potentially up front as well.

In goal, David de Gea will almost certainly keep his position, and will therefore make his 500th appearance for Manchester United.

Due to both his good form and an injury to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot will keep his place in the Premier League squad as he continues to have his best season to date in Red.

Barring any significant last-minute injuries, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez, who combined to keep a clean sheet on Thursday evening, should start as the back two ahead of De Gea.

The left-back slot is currently being rotated between Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, but after Shaw's impressive performance against Everton and off-the-bench appearance against Omonia, it looks to be Shaw's position to lose on Sunday.

In midfield, after back-to-back impressive games, Casemiro should get the nod to start as the deepest of Ten Hag's three. After being rested against Omonia it is likely that Christian Eriksen will come back into the XI after a very impressive campaign so far.

Bruno Fernandes will almost certainly start as he is the designated captain when Harry Maguire does not play, with Scott McTominay suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

Antony has nailed down that right-wing position - there is no doubt about that.

Against Everton, Antony became the first player ever to score on each of his first three Premier League appearances for Manchester United, and will no doubt start once again against Newcastle.

After an injury saw Anthony Martial forced off early against Everton, Cristiano Ronaldo has since filled the position, scoring at Goodison Park.

Although Erik ten Hag hinted in his recent press conference that Martial may be fit in time for the fixture, the safer bet is that Ronaldo will keep his place for the Newcastle match.

Despite somehow not scoring against Omonia, Marcus Rashford has looked impressive recently, and has made himself the first choice for Erik ten Hag's left-wing position.
