What Cristiano Ronaldo told Erik ten Hag about staying at Manchester United

What Cristiano Ronaldo told Erik ten Hag about staying at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has revealed what Cristiano Ronaldo has told him about wanting to leave Manchester United this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United has been a massive talking point this summer.

It was revealed back in early July that he wanted out of the club due to the lack of transfer activity and Champions League football.

He made very public efforts to leave Manchester United, with his agent Jorge Mendes seemingly offering his services to all of Europe’s top clubs.

Atletico Madrid were the most receptive to the offer, although the club’s fans were very active in showing their distaste towards Ronaldo, and called for their club to end their interest immediately.

Erik ten Hag has been questioned constantly on the player throughout the summer, and he has revealed that Ronaldo has not told him that he wants to leave the club.

When asked how he manages the situation with Cristiano Ronaldo who 'doesn't want to be at the club', he replied definitely.

"That's your assumption,” he said with a laugh. “That's not what he's telling me."

"I deal with the players we have, we plan with him this season, we are happy with him and now we have to fit him into the team,” he continued.

“He has to come to the right fitness levels so that he can do the job we expect him to do."

Furthermore, the Dutch manager has hinted that the striker could start against Brentford.

When questioned on the striker, he said on Friday: "He had a good training week. He has now two half a games, for starting XI we will see tomorrow.

“I make my decision and I keep it (to myself)."

The three signings the club have made so far this summer have impressed the boss.

“Tyrell Malacia did very well (against Atletico Madrid), Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez both did very well in the game against Brighton. We are very happy with that."

"We have to meet high standards and keep the high standards.”

Also the profiles [of players] we want to get in. Of course, character is always an issue. They have to be good and have to fit into the team."

“When Man United is not performing, not winning, that’s normal. I would be more in panic when there wasn’t panic because we have to win. That is the demand.”

“Still, I would say panic isn’t the right word. It’s more like, ‘come on, we have to act’. We have to think bright and do the right things."
